What kind of paints do you use? Is it safe?

All of our paints are safe cosmetic grade products designed specifically for face painting. I currently use several brands including but not limited to: TAG, Diamond FX, Wolfe, Snazaroo, Chamelon and Ruby Red.

While these are recognized as skin safe, this does not mean a reaction can't occur in some sensitive individuals, especially babies and young children. For this reason we recommend painting for kiddos 2+ and to avoid face painting if you have a known allergy to cosmetics.

These paints are applied with water and can be removed with a wet wipe or water. Some highly pigmented colors may have a slight staining effect, especially on dry skin. Washing with soapy water and/or applying a small skin-safe oil (such as coconut oil) can help remove any residual color.

What kinds of glitter and bling do you use? Is it safe?

All of our glitter is cosmetic grade polyester glitter. This is the only glitter that is safe for use on the face as it will not scratch the eyes if it comes in contact with them. We use both a dry super fine glitter as well as a chunky glitter gel which is polyester glitter combined with skin-safe medical gel (similar to ultrasound jelly).

The glitter and gel are safe and latex-free, however that does not mean a reaction can't occur in some sensitive individuals. To minimize risk of irritation, wipe glitter off the face with a wet cloth, wiping away from the eyes.

Our 3D bling is handmade by us with rhinestones, resin pieces, and foam clay adhered to an acetate sheet. They are applied primarily with medical grade adhesive tape (toupee tape) although sometimes we will use a long lasting latex free skin glue similar to eyelash adhesive. They are removed easily by pulling slowly and gently. These can be reused again later- I recommend reapplication with eyelash glue.

Our 3D unicorn horns are a soft foam clay to minimize risk of injury as these will break if they come  in to contact with a person or an object (a much better option than stabbing someone!)

Who can be face painted? Will you paint my infant/special needs child/sick child/etc?

Good candidates for face painting are willing participants, who can sit relatively still, over the age of 2 that ​have no open areas on their face or contagious illnesses spread through contact. 

​

Children who are under the age of 2 may sit still better than older kids sometimes but this recommendation also comes from the manufacturers of the paints we use. Young children have more sensitive skin and are more prone to reactions even with skin safe products. Often times I'll offer stickers or temporary tattoos as safer alternatives.

Special needs children are able to participate as long as your child wants to be painted and can sit still while a wet paint is applied to their face. It is not enjoyable or safe for either of us to force an unwilling child to be painted. As an alternative I carry stickers or can paint a hand or arm. Some children may do better sitting with an adult for help holding still, but should never feel forced.

To keep my supplies clean and safe as well as prevent the spread of illness I need a clean, dry face to paint on. I am unable to paint faces that have open sores, rashes, runny noses, pink eye, or other illnesses spread by contact. If your child has a messy face, I may ask a parent to help clean up first using a wet wipe to remove dirt or food.

How much time do I need to book for a small event/birthday party?

To get the best quote, contact me with details about your event. Things like location, age range of guests, type of designs and add on services all affect the amount of time we'll need. I can provide a recommendation. ​

As a general guideline, one artist can paint approximately 6 to 14 faces per hour depending on the designs that are chosen. If there is a birthday boy or girl I recommend booking me a little early to complete a special design for them before guests arrive as they will be distracted once their friends start arriving. If there is need to exceed the time booked and we are available to stay, it will be charged in half hour increments. 

Large events may require additional help either in the form of another painter/bling bar assistant or a line manager to help control the flow of people through the line. Pay per face events require a line manager to collect money - this is mandatory to keep my hands clean and available for painting. 

Events are booked at a minimum of one hour. Lengthy or difficult set ups may require a set up fee but most events we will include set up and tear down without charge. We will arrive early to set up. Please allow time for us to arrive early.

When is payment due? How can I pay you?

A non-refundable booking fee of $20 is needed to hold your event date and is due a minimum of 14 days prior to your event. If you need to cancel for any reason I will honor this booking fee for another date booked within 12 months of the original date if given 48 hours notice of cancellation. 

The balance is due the day of the event. Payment is requested prior to painting . If you may need us to stay over and want to make one payment, please talk to us about arranging a payment at the end. 

We accept payment in the form of cash, check, Facebook messenger payments, Paypal, or Google Pay. Please make all checks out to Randi Wilke. Contact us for an invoice or receipt if needed.

Do you bring your own table/chairs/tent/etc?

​

This is up to you. We have a table, chairs and EZ-up tent available to bring but need to know in advance if that is requested. We will gladly use your set up considering there is enough space for us to work.

​

For indoor settings we require a table, 2 chairs, access to running water, and a recommended 6’ x 6’ working space (or larger) with good lighting. If this is not possible please discuss set up options first before booking your event.

​For outdoor settings we require table and two chairs on level ground. Access to running water and bathroom facilities nearby is requested but not required. If we are providing a complete outdoor set up with tent, we require a minimum of 10’L x 10’W x 11’ H of level space with adequate lighting and/or access to electricity. If there will not be enough light,or your event runs in to the evening we must have artificial lights/electricity must be accessible. Please don’t water your lawn on the day of your party, or soak it heavily the previous day if possible.

If you want us to decorate the booth to match your event theme this may be possible in some situations but will be an additional service and will incur additional cost. Please contact us to discuss this prior to booking your event.

My event is outside. Can I cancel if the weather is bad? Can you paint in bad weather?

​

We will be there unless there is extreme weather that prevents us from traveling, however we ask that you plan in advance for the possibility of bad weather and have a back-up location ready. Rain or freezing temperatures will impact the paint. Lets talk in advance if weather could  be a concern.

While we do have an EZ‐up shelter, we still need reasonable protection from extreme temperatures, rain, snow and excessive wind and may require a back-up indoor location. We do reserve the right to stop painting and leave without refund if there are extreme adverse working conditions that can not be corrected. This may include but not limited to: unsafe weather events, destructive, violent, or extreme behavior by guests/client; illegal activities; or otherwise dangerous conditions.

What kind of designs do you offer?

​

One of the benefits of hiring an artist over those with less training is I can offer almost any kind of theme or design. Most events we settle on a customized design board for your guests to choose from. This is typically a set of 10-15 popular designs that will help us create beautiful faces quickly. This means happy guests and less booking time. 

​

Our options can include full face, half face, mask or cheek art. We also have the option to include arms/hands and some body art. (Backs, pregnant bellies, etc) 3D bling and a full gem/glitter bar is an add on option too. 

​

If you don't want your guests limited in their choices, let's talk. We can typically free-hand designs on the fly but this takes a little longer and we may not be familiar with every character or request you may throw at us and need a little assist from Google for reference.

Can you donate your services or give me a discount?

​

While I do often volunteer in our community I can't give away my services for free to every event or group that requests it. I limit myself to a few events per year that are special to me. 

Offering quality face paint requires a significant investment in time and money. If you have a cause you'd like to hire a face painter for, let's talk. Some options include a discounted rate/booking fee or a collection of donations by your patrons which reimburse me for my time and materials. Other events also find sponsors - a community partner willing to hire me on your behalf.

Please know that this is a consideration offered to charitable events and organizations only. Corporate marketing events, appreciation parties, and birthdays are not considered charitable and would be at our regular rates.

All bookings in good standing (meaning you did not have issues with payment, safety concerns, etc) enjoy a discounted booking fee for a second event and a thank you for being a good client.

Can children participate without an adult present? What kind of supervision is required? 

​

Adult supervision is mandatory and for the safety of us and the children involved we can not supervise/babysit children during an event.

Having an adult to provide permission helps us know there are no allergy or safety concerns for the children we are painting. Some children sit better on mom or dad's lap and we may request you sit with your child for a better outcome.

We are also busy creating great designs and need to make sure children waiting in line safely. Rough play can bump the artist causing danger to the child being painted as we work around their eyes and delicate faces. Ever heard "it's all fun and games until someone loses and eye"? Let's not test that. 

Face painting is exciting and fun for little ones. Our tools are tempting because they are colorful and often sparkly. We appreciate the effort by our hosts to keep little hands out of our supplies for their safety and to prevent loss or damage to our kits.

Line managers are NOT babysitters. They are there to speed up how quickly we can paint faces by answering questions, helping kids choose a design, keeping track of who is next, and closing the line when we are coming to the end of our painting time.

We reserve the right to ask a child to leave the line if they have dangerous behavior, are too young to be without an adult, or potential health or safety concerns.

You painted my child's face and they smeared it/got sweaty/played in water/etc. Can you redo it for free? They broke their bling piece. Can I have a new one for free? 

​

Our booking time does not typically allow for "re-dos" and while we use great products, they are water activated meaning water/sweat/drinks can affect them. Once a face is painted we cannot guarantee your child will not smudge the design (another reason babies and toddlers aren't great candidates) or enjoy other activities that impact paint. When booking birthday parties we recommend you take this in to consideration - face paint and a water slide aren't typically a great combo due to risk of washing off paint.

If our time is tight or we are assisting as a volunteer/discounted charity event we will have to limit painting to one per person. If time allows at other types of bookings we may stay over to paint people again but do charge overtime in 30 minute increments.

For events that are pay per face or have a line, an individual must get back in line if they are requesting a new or corrected face paint as a result of issues outside of the painters control. Each time a child is painted we will consider this a new service.

In some cases bling can be patched/repaired rather than replaced if it breaks but you will have to get back in line and wait for the artist to be available to assess this. Please note that although it may be frustrating,  it is supposed to break if met with great force. This is a safety issue - hard objects adhered to your child's face may seem more durable but can result in injury to you, your child, or another child as they play. If you fear your child may break a bling piece, opting for glitter only or a non-3D gem is a better option.
